Mustache/Beard Transplants

Permanent mustache/beard transplants are popular procedures among today’s young adults. Mustache/beard transplants enhance appearance by making the face to look more intense and manly to help men attract the attention of women, who are also interested in beard/mustache transplants because they are face-shaping procedures. However, hair transplanted in women is thinner to prevent faces from appearing rigid while also giving faces a smaller look without needing any surgery.

Sideburn transplant

Beard/mustache transplants are not very different from eyebrow transplants. Each procedure starts with a numbing injection around the back of the neck to reduce pain. We use a special instrument to extract hair roots and another high-magnification instrument to look for strong hair with the right thickness. Once we have our hair strands, we transplant them on the hairline on both sides of the ears. It is essential that the size of the transplanted hair is correct. Each strand has to be neither too thin nor too thick in order to produce a natural appearance for each person. For young men, we choose thick and large strands of hair to make the face appear more intense. As for women, the physician will choose thinner strands, but not too thin, to make the face appear graceful.

Beard mustache transplants require the personal artistic skills of each physician to design the right shapes. In addition to expert physicians, V-design also employs makeup artists to help design beards/mustaches for each face as well as adjust physiognomy. Because beards/mustaches must be designed consistently for each face, the entire cheekbone structure and all facial proportions have to be examined. Therefore, in addition to using the best transplant technique, the right design is also at the heart of beard/mustache transplantation.

A single beard/mustache transplant will last a lifetime. Men only have to regularly and evenly trim their beards/mustaches. For women, they can just let their hair grow long and maintain it like regular hair to achieve a smaller facial appearance with a prominent contour. The transplanted hair will also stay in place permanently.

How to Get Ready Pre-beard/mustache Transplant

  • From two weeks to one month before the beard/mustache transplant, stop taking medications, vitamins and supplements that affect blood coagulation such as aspirin, medications containing aspirin, Plavix, fish oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C and blood-flow enhancing drugs.
  • Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages one week ahead of the beard/mustache transplant.
  • If you have any chronic illness such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus or a circulatory disorder, please consult your regular physician before you’re the operation to obtain recommendations on how to manage your current medications with hair transplant medications along with self-care recommendations for when medications have to be discontinued before the transplantation.
  • Please inform the physician ahead of the beard/mustache transplantation of any food or medication allergies.
  • Immediately inform the physician if you have any fever, menstruation or illness occurring two to three days before the beard/mustache transplant.
  • You can eat breakfast on the day after the transplant as usual. However, you should not overeat and you should avoid eating pickled foods, strongly-flavored foods and foods that might cause heartburn or diarrhea. *** Avoid tea and coffee.
  • Avoid curling, dyeing or tinting your hair at least one month ahead of the transplant.

Post-beard/mustache-transplant Activities Symptoms

  • On the first night after the transplant, bleeding might occur at the beard/mustache transplant site.  Cover the site with the sterilized gauze provided by the clinic. Apply pressure to the site of the bleeding for about five to ten minutes. If the bleeding does not stop, immediately call the clinic to consult with a physician or nurse (a highly unlikely scenario).
  • Never wipe, pick or scratch the transplant site.
  • Swelling of the face can occur after the transplant. The inflammation is likely to be minimal and will disappear after seven days. In the event of swelling, apply a cold pack to the forehead and avoid touching the transplant site.
  • For the first week after the transplant, sleep on your back with your head raised up high to avoid sleeping on the newly transplanted beard/mustache. Otherwise, friction from rubbing with a pillow can cause hair roots to fall out. A pillow or rolled up towel can be used to support the neck and maintain posture while sleeping.
  • In the first month after the transplant, numbness might occur on the back of the neck. This is normal and will gradually fade away.
  • Be careful to not let anything hard hit the head.
  • Avoid bending the head when picking things up or putting on shoes. Bend the knees instead when performing those activities instead.
  • Stay away from places and activities where accidents might occur. For example, stay away from sports stadiums.
